ABOUT

Although the building was built in 2012, the student learning and use of technology has changed rapidly and the library no longer suits these shifting needs.
The goal of the renovation was to reduce the size of the physical collection and replace shelving space with flexible learning and event spaces, include three new individual group study rooms and more computer workstations. The project was achieved through an engagement process with faculty, staff and students. The former reference area has been transformed into a new gathering space inspired by and honouring the Indigenous presence on the land. Referencing the life force of the Fraser River, the new space is defined by the colours of the river, and provides non-linear gathering spaces. Millwork items anchor the new space including a more visible circulation desk, a bench with writable surface for the presentation space and a feature wall with fabric panels.
