The Squiala First Nation has engaged Urban Arts Architecture to provide a design for a new Montessori School for their community. The project is the result of a collaborative design process, including workshops with the Squiala Advisory Group and teaching staff.

The Squiala Elementary was started in 2012 to provide educational alternatives from the standard school experience for the Squiala First Nation as their children were not succeeding in the local school system. This alternate option has been offered to others in surrounding communities. Many of these children are Special Needs (currently 30% of the school population).

A new purpose built school is being planned to accommodate growing numbers of students and to expand the capacity to include K-4 to Grade 6.
