Joshua Tree Desert House

NUMBERS
ABOUT
Located on the edge of Joshua Tree National Forest, this 4,200 sq.ft. retirement home for an active couple is designed to be "off grid" - working with the desert climate.
Employing completely passive systems, the house features photo-voltaic power panels, natural ventilation with large openings and water cooling, large overhangs for shade, and fireplaces indoors and out for heat in the cooler evenings.
The sloped roof is designed to be at the optimal angle for the photovoltaic array covering it. The pool acts as a cooling agent for the warm desert winds flowing into the house.
